Update medical plans and medications. Visit your doctor, as needed, if you have a chronic health issue to make sure prescriptions are updated. Notify your school principal or nurse of medical conditions.
Know when your child needs to stay home. Understand when your child needs to stay home from school due to COVID-19 symptoms such as trouble breathing, persistent pain or pressure. Purchase a thermometer and keep your student home if their temperature is 100.4 or higher.
Getting vaccinated is a requirement for coming to school. (Unless you qualify for an exemption.) Getting vaccinated helps limit the transmission of diseases. Have your child’s immunizations updated prior to returning to in person school.
It is critical for schools to be able to reach parents and families in the event of an emergency. If your information is not up to date, call your school and ask them to update your records in Skyward with your current phone number and email address. If students have the symptoms for Covid-19, they will need to be picked up from school immediately.
Staying 6 feet away from the people around you helps limit the chances of an infection being spread. Explain to your child what physical distancing means and how to do it. Practice physical distancing at home and it will be easier for kids when they reach school.
Explain to your child how to cover their mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing. Teach kids how to immediately wash their hands after a sneeze or cough. Be a good role model to positively reinforce the behavior.
If a member of your family is sick with a cold, the flu or Covid-19 follow public health guidelines. Do not return your child to school until clearance is given or by following doctor’s orders. Students who come to school sick will be sent home.
Check your email regularly and look in your student’s backpack for messages from school. The district is posting information regularly to longviewschools.com and Facebook.com/longviewschools, so take a minute to find out what is going on. Seek out reliable information about Covid-19 from your doctor or the Cowlitz County Health Department.
Keep physical distance from others at the bus stop. Line up with 6 feet between each person and keep your distance when entering the bus. Follow the bus drivers instructions on where to sit and follow physical distancing safety procedures when exiting the bus.
