Mr. Wiitala came to Longview in 1972 to teach Distributive Education (Marketing) at Mark Morris, a position he held until moving to Cascade Middle School in the mid-1980’s. At Cascade, he served one year as assistant principal. He returned to Mark Morris to serve as assistant principal and retired as principal in 2002. Since then he’s served as a substitute principal and provided website design services for the district. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Montana State University and Master’s degree from Portland State University. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve. Mr. Wiitala is a founding member of the Mark Morris High School Foundation board and serves on the Longview ’23 Club board. He has been active as a volunteer on citizens’ committees for levy and bond campaigns. Mr. Wiitala was appointed to the board to fill a vacancy resulting from a resignation. His term expires November 2023.
