Seniors and their parents are invited to receive hands-on help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students and their families can complete the FSA ID and the FAFSA at home.  If you would like help, you are invited to join us at Mark Morris High School on October 3^rd for FAFSA Night.

What is the FAFSA?

To apply for federal student aid, such as federal grants, work-study, and loans, you need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing and submitting the FAFSA is free and easier than ever, and it gives you access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college or career school.

In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid.  You should submit your FAFSA as soon after October 1^st as possible. 

 Submitting the FAFSA is the most important thing

you can do if you want financial aid.

 

FSA ID

The student and one parent will need an FSA ID in order to submit a FAFSA online.  It will be helpful if this step is done before arriving at FAFSA Night.  An FSA ID can be obtained online at

Create an Account (FSA ID)   (studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch)

Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID is used to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information and electronically signing your federal student aid documents. Only create an FSA ID using your own personal information and for your own exclusive use. You are not authorized to create an FSA ID on behalf of someone else, including a family member.

File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at

Complete the FAFSA Form       (studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa)

To complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you will need:

·         Your Social Security Number

·         Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)

·         Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)

·         Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)

·         Records of untaxed income (if applicable)

·         An FSA ID to sign electronically (see above)

If you are a dependent student, then you will also need most of the above information for your parent(s).
