Dear Parents and Families,
As we get closer to making a decision on the upcoming school year things are changing quickly. Today eight Clark County School Districts jointly announced they plan to start the school year in full remote learning. To avoid confusion I want to give you a quick update on where we are in the decision-making process.
This morning I met with Cowlitz County school district superintendents, the county health department, representatives from the Washington State Department of Labor and Industry, Cowlitz Department of Emergency Management and local pediatricians. Superintendents from all Cowlitz County districts received the latest health data, information and perspectives. After the morning call, I met with both Cowlitz and Clark County superintendents to discuss school reopening plans.
The School Reopening Steering Committee met earlier today as well, to review return to school plans and make updates and changes. The meeting produced some good insights and revealed a few questions we still need to answer before decisions can be made. This Friday, July 31, the school board will hold a special meeting at 4:00 p.m. to discuss school reopening scenarios.
I want to assure you that we are thoughtfully going through the decision-making process as we develop school reopening plans. We appreciate your patience as we work through this complex process. We will publish our school reopening plans in early August to give parents and guardians as much time as possible to prepare for school.
Dan Zorn, Superintendent
