At their January 10, 2022, regular meeting the Board of Directors:

  • Received commendation from Dr. Zorn in recognition of National School Board Appreciation Month. Dr. Zorn thanked the board members for their service and acknowledged the importance of the elected board structure in Washington state and how it is important to democracy and the democratic system, and read Governor Jay Inslee's proclamation of appreciation.
  • Heard two Star Polisher statements. One from R.A. Long student Sephora Gierlich about Mr. Barker. She stated, "He makes class really enjoyable and goes out of his way to make sure everyone understands what they're doing and what they're learning. He could teach the most boring thing on earth and I would sit through it just because it's him who teaches it. He makes history one of my favorite subjects. A Longview Virtual Academy student, Iris Sanders, wrote, "Ms. Bello teaches me many things and she makes sure that we have the opportunities to succeed, and she cares for us as people, not just students she has to teach things to."
  • Heard a plea from SEIU Representative Shawn Nyman to have the district further support the LPNs and Health Room paraeducators, who are reportedly having difficulty keeping up with all the duties around COVID testing, contact tracing, and notification. She advocated for a testing site, to try to help alleviate the workload on these employees.  Teacher Connie Noakes asked that the district work to keep the COVID Case report on the website more current as people rely on that data.
  • Received appointments to various board committees, district standing committees and other organizations for 2021-22.
  • Adopted Policy 3432 Emergencies.
  • Approved Resolution 792 - Adopting the National Incident Management System.
  • Adopted the 2022-23 Budget Development Calendar.
  • Heard a report that enrollment is down by 70 students as compared to what has been budgeted.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for January 24, 2022, at 6:30 p.m.
