Health & Physical Education

One semester of health and 1.5 semesters of physical education are required for graduation from high school. All P. E. students will be tested several times a semester to establish general physical fitness using a district-wide computerized program. Results will be tracked over the students’ educational career. An evaluation with a fitness plan (goal setting) for improvement will be designed by each student. A state mandated classroom based assessment will also be part of the curriculum for each class.

FAMILY HEALTH - CTE203/CTE204
Family Health is designed to prepare students for life-long decision making, problem solving, critical thinking and management skills related to health and wellness issues.
9th Grade

HEALTH, FITNESS & NUTRITION - CTE163/CTE164
In this hybrid class students split the week between classroom learning (food and nutrition) and physical fitness in the gym. Classroom lessons include discovering how nutrition affects your body and life along with health benefits of good nutrition. Workouts include, but are not limited to cardio activities, circuits, walking and cycling/spin.
10th –12th Grade

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & FITNESS - FIT201/FIT202
This course will provide instruction in a variety of individual and team activities. The emphasis will be on overall fitness, fundamental skills and strategies, team and group cooperation and sportsmanship. Activities include, but may not be limited to: individual and team sports, components of fitness lessons, nutrition, and creating a fitness plan.

LIFETIME FITNESS - FIT203/FIT204
This class will consist of cooperative activities to stay fit for a lifetime. This fitness class focuses on personal growth on each individual’s journey.

WEIGHT TRAINING - FIT301/FIT302
The Weight Training course is designed to give every student a comprehensive understanding of what weight training can do for the body and mind if practiced on a regular and continuous basis. The course will explain in detail the various weight training exercises needed to stimulate and tax the major muscle groups for complete symmetrical body development.

PERSONAL FITNESS - FIT303/FIT304

This course is designed for those students who want to increase their overall fitness levels. Fitness testing and goal setting will be incorporated for maximum results. Activities include, but are not limited to high intensity interval training (HITT), weight room workouts, walking, body weight strength training, and cycling/spin. Students need to be self-motivated for success.

BEGINNING SWIMMING - FIT101/FIT102
This is a class in which students will learn water safety and basic swimming skills.

SWIM CONDITIONING - FIT103/FIT104
This is a class in which students will have an opportunity to use swimming to increase their cardiovascular endurance as well as improve stroke technique in the six main strokes used in swimming.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING - FIT107/FIT108
Students will learn the skills necessary to become a lifeguard, including water rescue, CPR and First Aid. Upon completion of the course, students will be given the chance to become lifeguard certified through the American Red Cross.
9th-12th Grade
Prerequisite: Swim 500 yds. continuously, using each of the following strokes for at least 100 yds: crawl stroke, breast stroke, sidestroke.

SPIN & STRETCH - FIT403/FIT404
Love to listen to music? Want a different exercise experience? This is a great alternative for your PE credit. Days will be spent increasing overall physical fitness by participating in instructor-led cycling/spin classes. It is a fun, full-body workout including sprints, hills and arm weights all done to the beat of music. Stretching/yoga along with nutrition content will be incorporated weekly. Self-motivation is necessary to be successful.
